Accountancy has traditionally been very corporate and intimidating. Whilst there will always be a place for those more traditional firms in the world, BookSmart was created by director Lydia to be purposefully different. BookSmart is a firm that prides itself on flexible working, family values and supporting local business people. We believe that the best accountants are those who get to know business owners and their businesses. We pride ourselves on building strong relationships with all our clients to support them to achieve their goals, whatever they may be.
Lydia Read-Potter
Managing Director
Lydia founded BookSmart Accounting in January 2021, intent on creating a better offering for the businesses of Lancashire. Lydia also set up BookSmart Training in 2022, to continue running short courses for local business owners, to help them feel more in control of their businesses. When not in the BookSmart office, Lydia enjoys spending time with her husband, four sons and three dogs.
Gemma Walshaw
Senior Accountant
A fully qualified accountant, Gemma brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team. Gemma has a passion for supporting small business owners to be more confident with their numbers and has strong relationships with her clients. When she’s not working Gemma loves spending time with her family and being mum to her beautiful son Charlie.
Emily Metcalfe Barnes
Accounts/Admin Assistant
Emily joined the team in April 2024 and is currently doing her apprenticeship in AAT level 2 from September. She’s excited to start her accountancy career with BookSmart and we can’t wait to see what she achieves.
Sam Good
Accountant
Sam joined BookSmart Accounting in April 2022 after qualifying AAT level 4 from Lancaster & Morecambe College. Sam is great with computers and is often solving the team’s IT issues. Sam’s ambition is to receive his MAAT status, which he is well on his way to.
Lauren Cannar
Accounts Assistant
Lauren is currently studying for her level 3 AAT after successfully completing her level 2 qualification in 2023. This is Lauren’s first role in practice and BookSmart Accounting will support her in her ambition to become a fully qualified accountant. In her spare time Lauren is a busy mum of four, as well as enjoying the outdoors.
